As competition in the automotive components industry continues to intensify, mergers, acquisitions, and capital transactions among major automotive parts manufacturers are becoming increasingly frequent. Domestic automotive component producers are placing greater emphasis on market research, particularly in-depth analysis of the business environment and evolving customer demand trends. As a result, a large number of domestic automotive component brands have risen rapidly.
The trend of automotive parts manufacturers spinning off from vehicle manufacturers and forming specialized parts groups is gaining momentum as a global phenomenon. Nearly all international automakers and parts suppliers have established joint ventures or wholly owned subsidiaries in China, with the number of technology-transfer joint ventures now exceeding 1,000. Meanwhile, a number of domestically based automotive and parts firms—characterized by high technological content, strong profitability, and large scale—are steadily emerging. As the global automotive industry adopts a “global sourcing” strategy for components and multinational automakers pursue localization initiatives, a substantial domestic gap in auto parts and accessories is expected to develop. By 2010, the domestic output value of China’s automotive parts industry is projected to reach approximately RMB 700 billion.
